Bon Voyage!

Peace out, nasty Wisconsin weather! Tomorrow I’m going to be headed to Vietnam, then to Thailand! Kevin and I booked this trip back in September and it’s crazy how fast time has flown by. I’m still kind of in shock that we’re leaving tomorrow.

I think part of the reason why our departure date came sooner than expected was because I’ve invested so much time and energy in the past two months to launching my blog. I haven’t done as much research into our destinations as much as I have for past vacations. I’m not usually a last minute planner, but I had so much time and excitement invested into the blog that I didn’t leave enough time to get ready for our trip!

It’s been a bit of a scramble this weekend trying to get everything ready for our vacation. Between packing, currency exchanges, shopping for last minute items, and preparing blog posts to publish in my absence, this weekend was a whirlwind of craziness. Needless to say, I am STRESSED OUT. And to top it all off, I started getting sick last night. Not the slightly congested, sore throat kind of sick – but the full on fever/body aches/chills kind of sick. I was completely immobile last night. Kevin picked up for my slack while I was totally bed-ridden. He washed and folded the laundry, picked up dinner (I know I’m sick when I can’t even eat half of my Qdoba burrito bowl), and provided a constant supply of water and Advil. This guy’s a keeper.

The worst part of being sick though, was that I couldn’t accomplish all the tasks I had on my checklist for the day while bedridden.  This stressed me out even more! Something’s gotta give. I can’t skip packing. I can’t skip finishing my work tasks before I’m out of the office for two weeks. I can’t skip the Target run to pick up some last minute necessities. It’s time to put my blog on the back burner.

I had planned on writing out 4-5 blog posts to publish in my absence, but now you’re only going to get one. When I realized I wasn’t going to be able to finish the 4 half-written blog posts in time, I was a bit hard on myself. I was disappointed and I felt guilty that I wouldn’t be able to keep the momentum of my blog going while on vacation.  But time doesn’t stop for the sick, weary, stressed out, vacation-bound blogger.

Then I took a step back. My blog is first and foremost for me – to bring me joy through creative freedom. If blogging is making me stressed, then I’m doing something wrong. And you know what? It’s my own blog. I’m my own boss and I can do whatever the heck I want! So take that, guilty conscience!

Besides all my #firstworldproblems, I’m extremely excited to embark on my adventures to Vietnam and Thailand! We will be going to Hanoi and Halong Bay in Vietnam, and Phuket in Thailand. I’ll have so much to share with you when I return. In the meantime, I’m sure I’ll be posting a ton of Instagram pictures of my trip. Give me a follow!

I’m praying that my sickness will pass soon and that I’ll survive the 24 hours of travel without a fever. Send me some good vibes please! I’ll be returning on March 17th completely jet lagged, but sun-soaked and refreshed. See you then!

  1. Love your outfit! Totally agree about the guilty blogger conscience I have experienced that a couple times now and I just keep reminding myself that my content is always better when my heart and time can fully be in it! Have a wonderful time on your adventure:)

    1. Yes! That is such a great mindset to have, but I definitely have to remind myself sometimes. Thanks for reading!

  3. This is going to be such an exciting trip for you! Totally gonna follow your blog so I can see all the pictures. One of the great things about being in blogger groups on FB is being able to find new bloggers like you! Also- hate to hear that you’re sick. On the plus side, you’ll have LOTS of time on the plane to catch up on some blog posts if you so choose. Have a great flight! Can’t wait to follow your adventures!

    1. Yes, I love that group too! Always fun to connect with other bloggers and discover others’ blogs. Thanks so much for subscribing! Can’t wait to share all my photos and adventures when I return. And yes, I’m totally going to write a bunch of blog posts on the plane. 🙂

  4. I always feel that guilt as well. But I have to remember that blogging is what makes me happy and when it doesn’t make me happy then it’s time for a break!

    1. So true. Thanks for reading!

  5. I am a new blogger and when I started I set up an every other week schedule, something that I knew I could commit too and up until this last week, I did. BUT then I got sick, my daughter had an event that was not in town and I just could get the words on paper. I kept pushing, didn’t give up and althougth one week late, I did my first “list” post and I have had the biggest response yet. Give yourself a break, it’s OK. Thank You for sharing this, becasue I was too hard on myself and this reminded me that I am not alone and we all have our moments. Beautiful Post!

    1. Congrats on your successful post! So glad to hear I’m not alone on feeling self-pressure while blogging. Wishing you continued success in your new blog. <3

  6. Have so much fun on your trip!! Even though I’m not going anywhere, I felt the same way about posting during my self-care challenge. I wanted to have everything scheduled and ready to go, so I didn’t have to worry about it that week… well, that didn’t happen. haha! Blogging takes so much time and effort. Really cute boots and outfit!

  7. Sounds like a fun trip, enjoy it! Love this look so much 🙂

  8. Aw feel better! I am the same way when I’m sick– I’m like, “I can’t do anything and really just want someone to come take care of me and do the everyday things that I simply cannot do!” But Kevin sounds so sweet for doing that and your outfit is amazing btw 🙂

  9. That trip sounds like so much fun! I hope you’re well-rested and feeling much better as you take off!

And you’re so right… you’re able to take some time off of putting up posts without feeling guilty and this trip is definitely worth some guilt-free downtime! 🙂 Especially since you were sick leading up to it. I remember once I stressed myself out so much (and didn’t get a lot of sleep) before going on vacation to get all my posts ready and then I kept checking to make sure they were going up and links were tweeting out correctly while I was gone. I decided never again… if I get the posts ready, I will, but if not, that’s okay. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for the reassuring words, Crystal! It’s so important to remind ourselves to relax sometimes. 😊

  10. How exciting! I have never been to Vietnam or Thailand but they are definitely both on my bucket list. Have fun!

  18. You hit home on so many levels!!! Your man is ahhhmazing! Totally a keeper like you said! I’m the same way though if I’m not eating you know something is wrong!! Haha! But seriously, this alone was so perfect. “Then I took a step back. My blog is first and foremost for me – to bring me joy through creative freedom. If blogging is making me stressed, then I’m doing something wrong. And you know what? It’s my own blog. I’m my own boss and I can do whatever the heck I want! So take that, guilty conscience!” THIS IS EVERYTHING! I love it and I love that yeah whatever you feel a little guilty but the only person who notices that is you! So go enjoy your trip! Have a blast and forget about those #realworldproblems (<–another winner in this post!) lol BTW! Love your outfit and I'm dying to know who takes your gorgeous photos!

    1. Thanks so much, Samantha! So happy to hear that my thoughts resonated with you too! Sometimes we just have to remind ourselves the true purpose of our blogs! My photographer is that keeper of a boyfriend, Kevin! Haha! Neither of us have any photography experience but we are slowly figuring out what all the different buttons and settings on my DSLR camera are for lol.
